MACE NEUFELD (Producer) is known as one of Hollywood’s most successful and respected producers. His keen eye for talent and ability to turn published works into box-office hits has helped launch the careers of Kevin Costner and Alec Baldwin as well as directors Richard Donner, Roger Donaldson, Phillip Noyce and John McTiernan among others. He has produced two of the industries most successful film franchises: “The Omen” trilogy; and the four blockbusters based on the Tom Clancy novels featuring the character of Jack Ryan, “The Hunt for Red October,” “Patriot Games,” “Clear and Present Danger” and “The Sum of All Fears.” He is currently in development on a fifth installment of the “Jack Ryan” series, which is scheduled to shoot next year.
His other film credits include the hit crime thriller “The General’s Daughter,” based on Nelson DeMille’s best-seller starring John Travolta, Madeleine Stowe and James Cromwell; the critically acclaimed “No Way Out,” starring Kevin Costner and Gene Hackman; “The Frisco Kid,” starring Gene Wilder and Harrison Ford; “The Saint,” from director Phillip Noyce and starring Val Kilmer and Elisabeth Shue; the psychological thriller “Asylum,” starring Natasha Richardson and Sir Ian McKellen; the adventure “Sahara,” based on the best-seller by Clive Cussler and starring Matthew McConaughey, Penelope Cruz and Steve Zahn; and "Invictus" directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela and Matt Damon..
In 1976, Neufeld and Harvey Bernhard produced the supernatural thriller “The Omen,” starring Gregory Peck under the direction of Richard Donner, which became an international blockbuster launched Neufeld’s producing career.
In 1989, Neufeld teamed with former New World Entertainment head Robert G. Rehme to form Neufeld/Rehme Productions. In the 1990s, the company had a successful string of films that included “Flight of the Intruder,” starring Danny Glover; “Beverly Hills Cop III,” starring Eddie Murphy, and “Necessary Roughness.” In 1993, the team of Neufeld/Rehme was voted ShoWest Producers of the Year and the following year were named Showmen of the Year by the Publicists Guild.
A native of New York and a graduate of Yale University, Neufeld began his career as a manager, guiding the careers of some of the most important talent in the entertainment industry at that time, including Don Adams, Don Knotts, Jay Ward, Gabe Kaplan, and music legends Jim Croce, Randy Newman, Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass, and The Carpenters.
In the 1980’s Neufeld’s credits include some of televisions most distinguished films including the Golden Globe-winning miniseries “East of Eden,” based on John Steinbeck’s classic novel, and the pilot for “Cagney & Lacey,” which went on to become a groundbreaking and award-winning television series. He also served as executive producer on the award- winning miniseries “Death in California,” and later presented the four-hour 1993 television event “Gettysburg,” which was then the highest-rated basic cable miniseries.
A man of many interests, Neufeld is also an accomplished photographer—his photograph of a returning WWII veteran, entitled “Sammy’s Home,” was voted Picture of the Year by the New York World Telegram-Sun. A longstanding member of ASCAP, Neufeld collaborated with lyricist Robert Arthur on material for such stars as Sammy Davis, Jr., Dorothy Loudon and Betty Clooney, and wrote numerous children’s songs, including the theme for the “Heckle and Jeckle” animated series.
Neufeld has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the American Film Institute and a mentor at the USC Ray Stark Producing Program. He has been honored with numerous awards including the Career Achievement Award in Producing from the Palm Springs International Film Festival. He is the recipient of a prestigious star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In addition, Neufeld has been a supporter of PATH (People Assisting the Homeless) for over a decade and was honored with the 2000 PATHMakers Award. He is a passionate supporter of Stop Cancer and has served as a member on the Beverly Hills Arts Commission.
STEPHANIE AUSTIN (Producer) has produced a number of box office blockbusters – beginning with TERMINATOR 2:JUDGMENT DAY and TRUE LIES, both for writer/director James Cameron; as well as the action-thriller THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT, written by Shane Black and directed by Renny Harlin for New Line Cinema.
Austin was Executive Producer on SHANGHAI KNIGHTS, starring Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson, directed by David Dobkin for Spyglass Entertainment and Disney, as well as BEHIND ENEMY LINES, a Twentieth Century Fox film in association with John Davis Productions, helmed by then first time feature director John Moore, starring Owen Wilson and Gene Hackman. She also was producer, with Mace Neufeld, of SAHARA, based on Clive Cussler’s best-selling book of the same name. Distributed by Paramount, SAHARA stars Matthew McConaughey, Penelope Cruz and Steve Zahn, and was directed by then first time feature director Breck Eisner.
Stephanie Austin began her career in New York at New Line Cinema before leaving to pursue independent production in Los Angeles. After working in various production capacities on a number of feature films, she joined Robert Papazian Productions, Inc. as a Production Executive. Austin was soon promoted to Vice-president and during her tenure at the company was Associate Producer on over 30 television movies and miniseries, including the controversial special The Day After and the 12-hour mini-series North and South Book II. She remained at the company until she produced Kate’s Secret for Andrea Baynes and Susan Seeger under the Papazian banner.
Austin then went independent, forming Stevie Productions, Inc. to develop and produce material for features and television. Among other credits, she produced the telefilms Mistress, for Jaffe/Lansing and Out on the Edge for Steve Tisch, for which Austin received the Women In Film Lillian Gish Award for Best Producer. She also produced the 4-hour miniseries Deadly Matrimony, starring Brian Dennehy and Treat Williams, and a 2-hour movie of the week, Judith Krantz’s Torch Song, starring Raquel Welch, both for Steve Krantz
With former President of Production of New Line Cinema, Sara Risher, she is a partner in a new indie venture – Chickflicks. In addition to current Chickflicks projects, Austin’s development slate includes SHADOWS ON A WALL, based on the best selling novel by Ray Connolly; LAST IMPRESSION, which evokes 19th century Paris and the controversial love affair between American painter Mary Cassatt and legendary French Impressionist artist, Edgar Degas; ROXORCIST, an original screenplay by Patty Powers, centering on teens who become possessed by dead punk rockers after playing with a Ouija board; FIT TO PRINT, a one-hour series set in the cutthroat world of contemporary newspaper and on-line publishing; and SHENANIGANS, a series about the enduring and formative experience of summer camp.
Austin’s first feature film producing credit was as Supervising Producer on Touchstone Pictures’ Heartbreak Hotel, directed by Chris Columbus, for Hill/Obst.
She became involved with Carolco Pictures when she produced Shattered Dreams for Carolco Television. This led to a meeting with James Cameron and an opportunity to work with him. She went on to co-produce Terminator 2: Judgment Day for James Cameron and Carolco Pictures, and produced True Lies for James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment and Twentieth Century Fox.
Austin is also partnered with her husband, Scott Thaler, in a multi-faceted venture, Roadhouse Films, Inc., a production company which services numerous domestic and international clients for commercials, and also produces screen tests, pick-up shots, and second units for independents and major studios.
Austin was a visiting professor during the spring of 2000 as part of the Weigand Visitor-in-Residence Program at the Claremont Colleges, and has participated in various symposiums and taught film classes at Pomona College, Harvey Mudd College, Scripps College, USC and AFI.
She is on the Board of Trustees for the Women in Film Foundation, where she is emeritus chair of the Film Finishing Fund, which she headed for over eight years. She is also on the Advisory Board of PROJECT A.I.M., which is part of the Eisner Foundation. She is a member of the Producers Guild of America and is represented by Paradigm.
