ADVANCE PRAISE FOR CITY OF WAR
Neil Russell has to be one of the finest, skilled and accomplished writers in the country, a true master of intrigue. CITY OF WAR is as fascinating and spellbinding as any mystery you'll ever read.

When I was asked to read
CITY OF WAR, I thought to myself “Neil Russell? What does a movie producer know about writing a thriller?” About five pages in, I knew the answer. Everything!
Reading
CITY OF WAR was like being in a high-performance jet piloted by Chuck Yeager. You know you’re in expert hands but with the throttle pegged and the maneuvers wild, you have to wonder if the wings are going to come off.
Happily, they never do. Like ol’ Chuck, Russell knows exactly what he’s doing and he’s got it all under control. One of the joys of reading this novel is letting Rail Black, the character of the title, peel back the onion of his own personality. There are layers on top of layers to this wealthy, nonconformist bad boy and, even without the relentless action and the sexy women; just hanging out with him is an adventure all by itself.
It’s been a long time since I’ve read anything quite so smart, hip, and downright fun. Not only that but I learned a few things, too.
Russell’s writing reminds me most of all of Nelson DeMille when that master of thrillers is at the top of his game. I have no doubt that the book is going to be a sure-fired hit. I bet even DeMille’s going to love it. Hell, he’ll probably wish he wrote it!

Utterly gripping,
CITY OF WAR by Neil Russell, balances brutal murder, fascinating mystery, and unforgettable characters on a knife's edge of exciting suspense that doesn't release the panting reader until the last page. Russell writes with the clear eye of an astute observer of human nature and the sweet soul of a poet. From Los Angeles to London, Corsica to Washington, D.C., this novel is larger than life and powerful.

In his first novel,
CITY OF WAR, Neil Russell has invented a great character. His name is Rail Black. He is as rich as Bruce Wayne, but far more interesting, and his adventure is personal and far more exciting......... and he does it all without a black rubber suit. This is a page- turner, and you won't skip any of them. You simply will not be able to put it down. I wasn’t.
CITY OF WAR is why there is a movie business.

CITY OF WAR packs all the pulse-blasting rush of snowboarding off the killer side of Everest. A heady homebrew of adrenaline, hand-to-hand combat, sensuous women and international intrigue. Equal parts Ludlum and Travis McGee topped off by a nasty dash of Dirty Harry's code of honor just to sharpen the edge. A thriller lover's hoard of white lightning but of impeccable vintage. First time novelist Russell makes it all look way too damn easy.
